2000-02-11 09:15:16 so, the NEWD Awards were last night. Don't get excited, it was the New England Web Design Awards. meh. They were at Avalon, a club I hadn't been to since the redesign. the ladies tell me that the new women's lounge is a sight to behold: 41 stalls, or some such nonsense. and can I tell you that I searched the club for 10 minutes and could NOT find the boy's bathroom? no joke. it wasn't near the women's lounge, and it sure as fuck wasn't where it used to be either. and while a friend and I were looking for it, we met up with some OTHER guys who couldn't find it either. how do you those apples. maybe we were supposed to use the women's? axis has a unisex bathroom, it's not a big deal. but you KNOW it's unisex. it doesn't say "women's lounge" on the door. anyways. the doors opened at 6. the awards ceremony started at 8. we left at 755. my company, the people I work with, we like to dance . we got out to a party or whatever, and get our SWERVE on, you know? but the dj was weak. we tried to bust a little something something when we could, he played like one or two passable dance tracks, but there just wasn't much to work with. so I'm sure we looked like dorks, the only ones dancing, but at least we tried. the crowd. I couldn't believe the crowd. I mean, sure, it's an awards show, so maybe I can see wanting to look nice. but it's WEB DESIGN awards. nerdy by definition. so I was just wierded out that people all looked so trendy. I couldn't think of anyone I had to impress, so I went right from work, sneakers and pants that are muddy from being splashed by buses each morning. but the crowd was mob deep with little black dresses and shiny shoes. so I was like "eep." but whatever. not that people shouldn't look nice. people looked very nice, definitely. the crowd was not unattractive. *I* like to dress up sometimes. but not for a nerd fest, I guess. I like hanging out with people who are casual and don't try impress everyone else. it would have led to a better time for all, I think. I guess it was the shmooze factor or something, that had something to do with the clothes. but people didn't seem particularly friendly, I didn't think. I didn't try the food. what I MOST wanted to do was get up on the podium and rock the mic and ask "Who here is down with dairyland?" because like there's two people in my office, so we can't have been the only ones there last night. and you wonder who is who, you know? that would have been the thing to do. we can't have been the only ones. particularly since most of the people there were from Aquent, and what else do they have to do all day besides write in their diaries? not much, is what. anyways, that's all. to sum up, potential for fun was way up, actual fun was way down. it least we got to go and act like idiots around everyone else. hey, it was fun for me. k thank you very much & credits music: |
