2000-03-29 09:17:44 once again I'm wearing my cheese that says "Aaaah, behold the power of hat." What I said. I only have a few more days of having to walk through harvard yard on my way to work. yay for moving. the other night we were walking across the quad and a big gigantic nyc taxi cab rat with a big long tail went scampering past us. ha ha. you harvard jerks have mutant rats. in my former life as an office manager/piss boy, I had to work on this harvard-related project. the president of the company I worked for needed help readying some survey for his harvard undergrad classes' 40th or 50th or something anniversary. they had sent out all the questionaires to their classmates, asking them what they were doing, what they weren't doing, what they were proud of, what they'd accomplished since graduating from harvard. pretty wanky shit, but you'll get that no matter where you graduate from, I reckon. anyways, one of the questions on the questionaire was "How would your life have been different if you hadn't gone to Harvard?" and there were a lot of these, we were collating and typing in answers and looking for similarities and stuff. there were a couple hundred questionaires, i think. but this question was the most interesting, because almost all of the people who answered it, i'm talking over three quarters, no exaggeration, said that if they hadn't gone to harvard, they wouldn't have spent so many years walking around thinking they were better than everyone else. how's that for interesting. harvard jerks are part of why I don't cotton much to higher edumacation much anymore. too much tuition. getting ripped off on expensive textbooks ordered by teachers to boost their own sales. learning to use big words which cloud meaning instead of intensifying it, and give you a feeling of self-importance and accomplishment. it's a step backward. look mom, i have a bigger vocabularly. thank you for the $30k. I don't really feel like I got a whole bunch out of my undergraduate career. can you tell? yes. you can tell. I liked the friends I made though. I like the community, and people randomly stopping by at all hours of day or night, and hooking up with people at parties, and seeing bands play in basements, and houses with names like the Neighborhood, the Duplex, the Spaghetti House, the Bitch, the Planetarium. and I liked the food at the restaurants. classes, teachers: not so much. k thank you very much & credits music: |
