2000-03-06 16:59:13 okay okay okay!!! the truth has to come out about Mary Chen! I can't keep inside anymore! listen because I think this is the neatest neatest story ever. it all starts with my friend cheryl, who is one of my favoritest favoritest people in the whole world. we've been friends since college (james madison university is where we went. important later.) and I love her so much. we met at some mutual friend's house and she laughed at all my jokes, so I immediately thought she was cool. and anyways, we've always lived in different parts of the country, and we like never actually physically see each other. i think the last time I actually saw her was like at LEAST 3 and a half years ago. BUT we talk almost every day on email. usually we get in at least 3 to 5 emails back and forth, about what we did the previous night, what we're having for lunch, our plans for the coming evenings, etc etc. it's been going on for years like that and we never miss an email opportunity and even though we never see each other and don't even ever talk on the phone (because i'm totally phone-phobic) we still are just as close as can be. she's just my best friend and I'm so glad there is a her on the planet. anyways. while that part of my life was going on, one day I stumbled upon mary chen's site. I don't remember how. anyways. I like her site. also I noticed that like mary chen, I also had a link to my cdnow wishlist on my site. keep that information handy, it becomes important in the next paragraph. so one day I feel like this was just last summer, but also if feels like years ago, a girl who I do not know, but who goes to oberlin, or did at the time, surprised me by ordering a cd for me. apparently she had some extra cash, liked my site, and was just generally a good person. so I was surprised and pleased to find the mary jane girl's greatest hits on my doorstep one summer morning. and no jokes please, all night long is a totally rocking song and always will be. so that was so nice of her! i was happy. and I wanted to spread the joy. I though to myself : "this girl does not know me, and yet she bought me a cd. I want to do for someone. I want the circle of surprise happiness to be unbroken. who is a person who I do not know and yet has a cdnow wishlist on their site?" EXACTLY! mary chen! and so I bought mary chen a cd. it was jordan knight's most recent release. I liked that single he had with the dancing in the amusement park. well, that would have been the end of the story. but then cheryl, remember cheryl? well she lived in kansas city missouri this whole time. but then, she moved back to the dc area. her old stomping grounds. cheryl is a total social firefly and goes out to bars and stuff every night and is totally amazing. she also goes to parties and has parties too. anyways, this a place where I'm going to make this story shorter, but basically, here is what starts happening: cheryl goes to a place often called the galaxy hut. also, sometimes in mary chen's diary, i was noticing, mary chen also went to a place called the galaxy hut. and I was reading all this, going, "hmmmmmm..." this entry goes into some quiet detail about it, but I left out stuff about how like mary chen would mention seeing Q and not U, and cheryl would not only have been at the same very show, but would also have met the singer a week earlier and stuff. and so ANYWAYS cheryl had a party this past friday. and because jmu, where we went to school, isn't too terribly far from the dc area, a lot of grads do end up in the dc area. so cheryl had this party, and some jmu alums also showed up. and one of them was this guy named phil, who I only vaguely knew at jmu, more he was a friend of a friend (like I worked with his friend amy, I think). but everyone always speaks very fondly of him. the general consensus is that he's a very nice boy. well! cheryl and he got to talking at this party, and guess what! yes! yes! yes! he works with mary chen! they are acquaintances! I know cheryl, and cheryl knows phil, and phil knows mary chen! they're FRIENDS and stuff, i'm told. do you like apples? well how do you like DEM apples? and that is the neat circular story! I hope you are not thinking that the payoff at the ending wasn't that great, because I still and always will think it's a neat neat neat neat story. listen, it's just a cool little world we live in, is all i'm saying, where people all over time and space and internet can be somehow connected. that's all! k
