2000-01-27 17:29:11 Ah. Ick. I think they're trying to screw me. Everyone at my company just got this whole new policy regarding our health insurance. soon we're going to have to pay quite a little bit more than we have been out of our paychecks, which is not only sucky but also kind of a shock. Ugh. I thought this was going to be some sort of utopian workforce when I first started here. An Internet company!! Don't have to dress up! Look there's a playstation to play with, and it's not just one of those regular playstation, it's got the chip soddered in so you can play foreign titles! Also look at the array of snacks! Sheep's clothing. Just because there aren't any cubicle walls doensn't mean you aren't in a maze. Aiiii. I need to go over these new documents with a magnifying glass. Try to find the contract I signed. Schedule a meeting with the people who are doing the screwing and have them try to convince me that this job *isn't* becoming hazardous to my soul. Okay, sorry. Time to think of happier thoughts. Time to concentrate on the positive. Oh I saw a site I really like today, I'll tell you it and why I like it. Ok. here is the site: sunshine I like it because I find it refreshingly simple. although I really am drawn mostly towards sites with black backgrounds, (that's why i forced myself to use orange), and sites that use small type (although I recently upgraded to 1280x1024 and I must say it's getting to be a strain on these old eyes), i don't know what my train of thought was, but this was a nice surprise. SO simple!!! nested tables, colors, and that's it. and also I like it because it's pretty to look at, i think, without resorting to really insane or creepy manipulated photoshop images. and I don't mean offense to anyone with self-evident photoshop skills. i don't HAVE photoshop, much less any skills with it, so I have to admire yours. i'm jealous. but sometimes, it does get to be a bit much. so I like what's simple, is all. this has come up a lot recently at work, to bring the monologue full circle, because we recently had a new launch of our website. and parts of it are cool, but other parts i'm not so sure about. the colors and the layout I love, but it also uses some kinda hairy dhtml and javascript that, sure, demonstrates we have at least SOME knowledge of yesterday's technology tomorrow, but how cool is it really? like basically there's no point in using new technology if you don't do it interestingly and it obscures the actual intent of your site. which is pretty duh, but bears repeating. reminding. love you lots k thank you very much & credits music: |
