2000-02-15 16:41:43 don't forget that the brak show starts this weekend. also listen. one of the best presents that I got for my birthday was a book by David MacAulay, called Black and White. my Rosalie gave it to me. I'd never seen it before, but I looked at it and immediately I was wooshed back to elementary school. I had been such a big fans of his back then. I remember spending any time I could in the library reading Cathedral, and I did a really good book report on Pyramid in the 4th grade that totally grossed out my classmates because I specifically mentioned how in embalming the mummies they pulled the brains out through their noses. I remember Lea Olschefski in particular crinkling her nose and looking around to see how else was disgusted. anyways, it was SO COOL because Rosalie didn't know that I'd ever been into the David MacAulay, and in fact I'd pretty much forgotten about it. but it was so wonderful because you know, you're in your twenties, and you don't love your job, and you try to be a writer but you have tons of doubts and you're sick of wondering why you bother, and when you think everything's terrible and you should just quit, someone who knows you better than anyone, and who understands you, and who believes in you, sees something in your writing that reminds them of something else, and they help you make a connection, and it's like "hey! he thought that way too. maybe his brain works the way yours does." and none of that probably makes much sense, but the point is, I guess, that it's really cool that someone you love can take what you give them, emotionally and mentally and spiritually, and reach down into it and pull something out and hold it up and say "see? I understand this better than you do." and so it's really cool to have someone who can see so deep into you that they can intuitively know and understand parts of your life that they weren't there for the first time. that's all. k thank you very much & credits music: |
