2001-05-23 4:50 p.m. Man, the bad thing about summer is that it's hot. And it's not even summer yet. It won't officially be until June 21st. But you know the good thing about summer? .... NOTHING!! It all sucks. I don't like the sun or the heat. Don't call me a ninny. Want to hear about a ninny? Here you go: I was talking to this guy I know and he is so inept at cooking. He insists that recipes are too hard to follow because they are written for people who already know the basics. I asked him what basics he was talking about. He told me he made a mistake while cooking stew. The recipe called for two cloves of garlic. He did not know the difference between heads and cloves so he ended up adding two whole heads of garlic to his stew. Needless to say it turned out badly. There are two things that bothered me when he told me this story. First, how does anyone not know the difference between a clove of garlic and a head of garlic? Secondly, wouldn't you assume you don't have to add a lot of garlic to stew? Aren't two cloves excessive? Why did he just ASSUME it was two whole heads of garlic? Why didn't he consult anyone beforehand? Was he afraid people would laugh at him? I am not laughing. I am shaking my head and crying softly to myself. I told him to consult me before cooking anything else. |
