2000-01-25 13:47:49 in my office all around us on everywall we have whiteboards. (no windows, which is sucky, and the air quality is as bad as you'd think, but it has to do with our office being a former bank. we still have the vault. there's a playstation and futons in there.) anyways but we have these whiteboards all around us, and I guess it's a computer dork thing. but i've never written on them. but a lot of people have. but not always for computer-related stuff. sometimes people do graffitti-style tags. also there is an odds-table for betting on which employees are least likely to ever get married. i'm not on that. also right directly behind my head is a list of some employees 5 desert island discs. not everyone has a list up, but some do, and I was going to add mine. but then I couldn't think of 5 albums I permenantly like. buying cds is my favorite thing in the whole world, and I have at least 300, but for some reason I can only think of 4 off the top of my head. and those 4 are pretty constant. but then the fifth slot for some reason is the one that alternates from month to month. I do not know why that is. but listen here are the ones I can remember. best to put them up here in case I forget or something. or if I solve the mystery and can finally decide on the fifth one then we'll be all set. one is aphex twin ambient works volume 2. I don't have a good story about it though. my friend david told me he really liked it and listens to it a lot while he does art and stuff. he said it was like alien landscapes. so I got it and I really really love it. and sometimes I listen to it while I write. but also sometimes instead I listen to: ennio morricone's hamlet. don't even ask me why I ever bought this album in the first place. I guess the music struck me. I don't remember the movie striking me, though. yes, this was the one with mel gibson, who I hate, as hamlet. but I went I remember not liking and trying to make fun of it, and then I'd say something I thought was funny, and then while I was saying it someone one the screen would say something actually funny, and everyone in the theatre would laugh, and I would miss the joke. and it happened a couple times. to sum up, me=dumb, movie=?, music from movie=good. also I like liz phair's exile in guyville. which everyone likes. but for some reason I hated liz phair the first time I heard her. well not hated her, but I worked at a college radio station, which was my first mistake, and everyone always made the biggest deal about her, and I could never understand why. and maybe they were right, or maybe they just infiltrated my brain, but goddamn it I love this and all her albums. so there. also there's this album by bjork I like, called gling-glo. it's really really really fun and good except for one song which has accordion or something on it which I hate the sound of. but anyways, it's a jazz album, mostly in icelandic. I've never seen it for sale anywheres in this country, but once when I lived in london (intercontinental name dropping) I went to edinburgh (more of same)and was just poking around some little tiny record store just off the royal mile (ack! please stop me!) and happened to look in the bjork section and there this little baby was. and I looooooove it. this is what I put on during dinner parties. bjork + candles = thank you for inviting us to your lovely dinner party. I think that's plenty of information for now. yes, I'm sure it is. k thank you very much & credits music: |
