2000-04-25 09:43:37 I went to the big heavy metal show at bill's bar last night. I went because matty, the drummer for trustfall, who I went to high school with, was stressin because it was a monday night show and he was sketched that no one would show up. anyways, he needn't have been all sketched, because there was plenty of kids there. out in full force. the boys all wore their big hooded sweatshirts, and the girls all wore tank tops and big belts and prowled around the boys like cats. rosalie and i don't go out much. i can't remember the last time we went out to see a band before last night. it's frustrating to me to have to yell to say hi to people, plus your ears end up ringing all night, plus everything smells like cigarettes the next day. (the fact that so many people still smoke is insane to me. we watched the insider this weekend, and if I did smoke, that movie would definitely have made me want to quit. FUCK letting a big corporation own you like that. FUCK that shit.) anyways, a little metal and screaming goes a very long way, but it was fun anyways. well, there were fun parts and lame parts. got to see my friend stephen, that was fun. we were in bands and stuff in high school, so it's fun to go to the shows and be music dorks and comment on the bands and stuff. like the guitarists for colepitz had TONS of special effects and all kinds of stuff that you don't see everyday, and stephen leaned over to me and said: "Homeboy likes the fancy shit." that was good. someone threw beer at us, that was not so much. also, the singer for colepitz spat a lot on stage. did he actually need to spit? was it like a I'm-so-in-the-zone-and-full-of-metal-rage-that-I-simply-must-spit kinda thing? probably not. I don't care what kind of wannabe rockstar you are. no spitting on the stage, please. oh also, before they started, yeah I think he had a big wannabe rockstar complex, because before they started I was just standing around trying not to get beat up or anything, and the singer walks by (I had no idea who he was b/c I'd never seen colepitz before) and was like "hey man, how you doing?" as he walked by. so either he a)thought he knew me, not so likely, or b)was just being a friendly frontman and wanted to welcome everyone, pretty plausible but I doubt it, or c)he was doing the big rockstar-is-still-down-with-the-common-man kinda shtick and I was probably supposed to feel awed that this dyed blondie in a hack band from maine said hi or something. ok maybe not, but maybe so. C is the heavenly option. but they were the band that sounded the best last night. trustfall, who i actually went to see, had probably the worst mix ever. every drum was miked, and i'm not sure the guitar was at all. wicked shitty sound. also, the bassist had this cord that kept making all this buzzing sounds and kept falling out of his bass. whole bunch of spinal tap bullshit, no fun for anyone. plus the singer. he's a very nice young man. probably he's still new at the singing stuff. he has a pretty adequate voice. he's got the front man swagger. he does stuff with the mic cord. his melodies, or whatever you want to call it for metal music, are soooooooo lame. every single song has the exact same Vocal Stylings. they really need to work on that shit. seriously. I wish i could record a wav of me pretending to be him. I do a pretty good impression if I Do Say So Myself. oh also another thing I hate: when the singer for a band "takes it straight to the people, man" and jumps down off the stage and holds the mic up for his friends to sing into. STOP DOING THAT. YOU SUCK IF YOU DO THAT. IT'S ONLY FUN FOR YOUR LITTLE FRIENDS. alienate the entire audience, why don't you. fuck, that shit is irritating. we were out late last night, I'm all tireded today. but it was good that we went out, like I say, because we don't much, we kind of stay huddled in our house, doing things like Reading. and Writing. and Working. and it's good to get out once in a while. even if it's a pain in the ass finding a cab. even if, ummm, I feel old and uncool and fat and wierd. k thank you very much & credits music: |
