2002-04-14 3:32 p.m. Characters in the weekly comic strip I do: Aaron: he seems like a boring person. He is the kind of person who will put bread in a toaster and just stand there until it comes popping back up as toast. He truly would have nothing else to do during that time period. But in reality, he is a Manchurian Candidate-style killer. Brainwashed and deadly. The fact that he doesn't know about this, or act on it, is the source of primary comedic tension in the strip. Fuzzy: a dog that has a cat's name. He does not talk, but the reader's can see his thought balloons. They do not contain cynical thoughts about human activities. Instead, they contain James Joyce-style interior thought-streams of concepts that emulate the inner life of a dog-- a dog with a stupid name. Candy: the attractive neighbor with the breasts. She stops by Aaron's apartment to talk about her crazy days working as a temp worker with big breasts. Plenty of room for subtle "blue humor." As much as the editor will allow. Juan: a groundskeeper for the apartment complex Aaron lives in. For a change of pace from the madcap Aaron-Fuzzy-Candy stories, some days will just be four panels of Juan cutting the grass. Sometimes, he will say things in Spanish. (e.g. "Ay de mi!") The fun never, ever, ever stops. Let me tell you. |
