2002-02-06 7:50 p.m. To be sure, I am not a religious man. But today, oh my brothers, I had a vision. During a meeting. My 3 o'clock today was with a gentleman who had expressed interest in a few of my ideas and was going to supply venture capital, so long as we hit it off. Well, the moment I entered his office, briefcase in hand, PowerPoint points memorized, I was dazzled. Struck blind. Maybe I had a stroke. But it seemed to me like he was an angel. The whole shebang, wings, halo, glowing backdrop. He greeted me and I felt a peace such as I had never known. I have something for you he said, and opened his wallet. He began pulling out crinkled up bills and would turn the wallet upside down to shake it for loose change. He counted everything out slowly and in the end, he had given me twenty-eight dollars and forty-three cents. It was all small bills. It's yours, he said, and when I asked him where people like him got money from, he got really offended. So it's been a few hours and I'm not sure if I had this meeting or not. Where was the office I visited? Why were the bills so worn and wrinkled? I'm afraid to open my wallet to see if the money's really there. I wish I could hire someone to look for me. Someone religious, maybe. For now, I've put the wallet in my closet and I'm telling myself that I lost it. You can have it if you want it. It's creepy. |
