2000-06-02 16:39:41 I bought a whole bunch of candy yesterday at lunch. grandma candy, mix and match bag type. but it mostly all melted before i even got back to my office. anyways I forgot I had it and now i'm eating melted and reformed candy. it's ok. i'm reading a book called audio on the web. it was printed in the ripe old year of 1998, so it's already pretty out of date. it's not bad though, it has some useful beginner information about sound file compression types, et cetra. but chapter 9 is entitled: "Liquid Audio, The Future of Music Distribution" if that gives you any idea. and they hardly talk at all about mp3s except to sayandiquote: "It seems that MPEG Layer 3 [compression] is so effective that in certain shady reaches of the Internet, you can find people distributing full albums' worth of music for free - a flagrant violation of copyright law and just simple fairness." it refers to these people as pirates. you are bad pirates! bad! the book was written by the guys who do iuma.com, and of course everything on iuma.com is all mp3-y nowadays. of course. so much for those butt/music pirates. i emailed about 10 mp3s to my brother today, who works, alas, behind a firewall and can't utilize the napsterism. i think the theme from alice is pretty good what do you think. vic tayback ("mel sharples") died 10 years ago last week. beth howland ("vera") is on the original cast soundtrack recording of stephen sondheim's "company." (not recommended). that's the second musical reference i've made today. you're wondering about flo? what's she been up to? you know her real name is polly holliday. which of course brings us to my third musical reference of the day: it's a polly holliday with you, mary poppins. i enjoyed polly holliday's performance in the remake of the parent trap. it is a very good movie. people are still very excited about the sacagewa dollar. have you noticed that? k thank you very much & credits music: |
