2000-05-15 11:02:16 my back really hurts. owwwwwwwwwwww. i think my spine is being crushed under the weight of my gyenormous stomach. it's this damn thorax of mine. it's killing me. bloy. it's this sitting down at a desk all day, and then going home and sitting at the table to write or whatever. it's killing me. if I could just tack on a few more hours to the beginning of each day I could squeeze some exercise in there real nice. but no. screwed by god, or the people who invented the day, or whoever, once again. anyways, on to what you really want to hear about: tofurkey. the much-anticipated preparing of the tofurkey did not go as hitch-less as planned. mistakes were made. the thing is I'm not one for following the directions printed on the box. directions, schmirections. I'm an explorer. a hunter. a seeker. not a cooker, however. I bunged it up pretty badly. here's some things to keep in mind when you prepare your tofurkey: it takes way more than the alloted 24 hours to defrost. it takes 36 at least, I imagine. do not screw around with the basting recipe unless you know what you are doing. I did not know what I was doing. my version of their perfectly fine basting sauce came out tasting somewhere between crappy and gross with a pinch of blechy. too taste. also do not repeatedly remove the tofurkey from the oven to keep rebasting it. you're only supposed to do it once. only do it once. i thought i was being so clever. "this is just like preparing a REAL turkey!" I thought. "look at me, i'm june cleaver over here!" rebasting does not work. I thought I was going to make it more tasty. instead I was just creating patches on the surface of the tofurkey which would burn easier. ahh, science. most importantly, though, and really somethign to keep in mind when planning future engagements, much like it's reallife counterpart, tofurkey tastes WAAAAY better the second day, after it's spend the night in the fridge. i don't know why, it just does. so in the end it was still very yummy. i had it for breakfast on sunday. but it was quite a headache along the way. but i'm learning. it's the bell curve, baby. can't go around it. k thank you very much & credits music: |
